Taco Friday

Fyretober 2021

Welcome to day 22 of Fyretober! I hope you’re all enjoying a month of flash fiction as much as I am. Enjoy today’s writing challenge from Fyrecon’s Fyretober!

“Happy Taco Friday!” A sack was dumped unceremoniously on a table with a wet thud. As Dargo sat back expectantly. His wings rose behind is back, and if he’d hair instead of scales he was certain it would be standing on end.

Elsin had been moping about their cave for entirely too long and this was the perfect plan to life her spirits. She raised her head languidly and glanced at the bag. “Isn’t it Taco Tuesday?”

Dargo rolled his head noncommittally. “Perhaps for most people, but we are great souls and cannot be constrained by the calendar mortals set.” He nodded his head with a quick bob after his pronouncement.

Elsin narrowed her eyes. “Dargo.” There was a note of warning in the way she slowly said his name.

“Fine,” he huffed breathing out a puff of smoke. “I couldn’t find a decent mutton shop in a three-day flight. And I hear these truly are excellent.” He nudged the bag with a claw.

Elsin rolled her eyes, but still raised herself from the ground. Wracking a claw along the paper bag, the contents spilled over the floor. Slurping one up, the crunch was loud in the quiet cavern.
She paused her head twisting 90 degrees to the side as her eyes widened. “I told them to use the extra, extra hot sauce.” He said.

Elsin huffed, but smoke dribbled from her mouth in a content column as she resumed munching on his offering. Her tail wrapped about an egg, nestled among rocks behind her.

Drago say back heaving a deep sigh. Finally, something she’d eat. He was certain hunting for mates hadn’t been this challenging for previous generations.

Join the creation fun and share your work with us.

This isn’t a contest. But that doesn’t mean we won’t be giving out random prizes for amazing work.”
