Chilled

There was something not quite right about the window

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write as part of a group based on the same short prompt and post them. Here’s my contribution.

Payne halted but those he was trailing failed to notice. Their voices continued, fading as they rounded a corner. As fascinating as Midge’s pups were, there was something not quite right about the window.

Crackled. Extra curls were covering the pattern. Reaching out Payne touched the window. Cold.

Snapping back his hand, Payne withdrew as the crackling became audible. His back hit the wall as the window imploded.

Wind rushed around Payne clawing at his hair. White hair, white skin appeared at the window.

“Payne,” Jack said stepping through, ignoring the broken shards. “the bill’s due.” His blood chilled further.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
