The Fall

She was carried along by the crowd

What is WonHundred Word Wednesdays? It’s when a group of amazing authors and I write 100 word stories all based on the same short prompt and post them. All the variations are fun to read. Here is my entry for the week.

The air was filled jubilant shouting. Beast slayer. Fire tamer. Vanquisher. Her own name, Leala. All the chants mingled by excitement. She was carried along by the crowd deaf to her protests or her dismay.

Finally, they released her onto the temple steps. She skittered backward as if a frightened foal, placing distance between herself and the throng. Her raised hand was an ineffectual shield.

Glancing up at the sky Leala saw the dragon’s spirit in the clouds. Pressing her hand to her heart, she choked back a sob praying the great one understood. She hadn’t been given a choice.

Now see the rest!
