Chances

If there was ever a time to seize the day, now was that time

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write, as part of a group, a flash fiction based on the same short prompt and post the story. This month is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and my story comes from the universe of the book I’m working on. How it connects I won’t say, but I hope you enjoy this week’s contribution.

Foire shoved Gaodan backwards, until his body hit the bridge’s railing. Redava crept closer, an unseen shadow for a moonless night. A good night for chances. Change was coming.

“You thought to unseat me?” Foire said, his blade dulled by darkness. Would have menaced better if it’d gleamed Redava decided.

“For the Circle’s survival, yes.” Gaodan’s voice didn’t quiver, even with the blade to throat.

Redava sprung forward as torches appeared. That was her cue. Her dagger sliced Foire’s ankle and she vanished before light could touched her. Instead they found Gaodan looming above a writhing Foire.

“The Circle’s mine.”

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
