Drifters

He had kept their mother alive in their thoughts. Too alive, perhaps.

What is WonHundred Word Wednesdays? It’s when a group of amazing authors and I write 100 word stories all based on the same short prompt and post them. All the variations are fun to read. Here is my entry for the week.

Lights flickered from neglect. The carpet was worn with age. Garth doubted it would be repaired or replaced soon. Especially if he couldn’t find someone soon.

Pausing at the bay he leaned in. “Peters?” he asked. His voice echoed in the room. It was as empty as the rest had been. Garth guessed where he’d find everyone. Guessed and wished he was wrong.

He had kept their mother alive in their thoughts. Too alive, perhaps. Earth was a memory as was her comforts. He turned toward the memory chamber. He’d drag them out. They had to look forward, not back.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. Theirs go up throughout the day.
