Wednesday has come around again, and I’m happy to present this week’s flash fiction.
Marion pressed her lips together, surveying the audience chamber. Less than an hour to the coronation and water dripped everywhere. Except for from Samuel and Timothy. They stood with arms raised, staring at her.
“I hope you’ve an explanation.” If Marion had used a lick of power, her words could have frozen the dripping water.
The pair lowered their arms and dropped their gazes. “Well, you see,” Samuel began.
“There was a minor issue,” Timothy stammered.
Marion waited for them to continue, but neither did. “So, you made a major one instead?”
“No,” both said, snapping their gazes up.
Samuel rubbed the back of his neck. “There was this water sprite.”
“A coronation gift,” Timothy said.
The pair glanced at a cage on the ground. The nearly translucent crystalline structure had no doubt housed the pixie. What she wanted to see was why they had opened it.
A ball of water hurled towards Marion. She raised her hand, palm outstretched. The ball froze, including the trail behind it.
Stepping aside, Marion spotted the tiny creature, hanging with its hands encased the ice.
“How dare you!” The pixie yanked her arms about, unable to break Marion’s spell.
“I think the question is, how dare they.” She turned back in time to see Samuel approach with the crystalline cage. He held it to her timidly.
“We won’t do it again,” Samuel said.
Marion snatched the cage and marched toward the pixie. She certainly hoped they weren’t daft enough to do it again.
