Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write, as part of a group, a flash fiction based on the same short prompt and post the story. Here’s my contribution.
I cussed at the others for slacking. There was too much horizon for a single pair of eyes. I’d almost missed the smudges over the mountain and rains weren’t due for weeks.
The wriggling shapes sharpened as they neared. Dragons.
Turning, I raced down the tower stairs, racing for the village. “Dragons,” I screamed. There was no response.
I skidded to a halt in the full square repeating my warning. Still nothing. Had I gone mute?
No. One girl looked at me fearfully, her mother’s hand clamped on her, keeping her still. What was wrong with everyone to not care?
Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
