Giggle and Annoyed

He kept absolutely still as the footsteps got louder

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write as part of a group based on the same short prompt and post them. Here’s my contribution.

“Brownies, pixies and, fairy dust,” he whispered stilling his shakes as laughter tried to wriggle out. “Brownies, pixies, and fairy dust.” He clasped his hands over his mouth as the door clicked softly and the hinges squeaked.

It was her. Even the two steps she took into the room were distinctive: determined and annoyed all at once. The annoyed was usually his doing. The floorboard creaked under him as he rocked backward. Unicorn fur.

She’d heard it too. He kept absolutely still as the footsteps got louder. He was in for it. Perhaps he shouldn’t have spiked the manticore’s lunch.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
