Beyond the Belt

She was tired of him regaling her with his tales

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write, as part of a group, a flash fiction based on the same short prompt and post the story. Here’s my contribution.

Clutching the dented mug, Marsa strained for a glimpse of rock or dust beyond the ship’s windows. Empty space greeted her. They were past the belt now, still Chosk spun his untrustworthy tales. “Never saw me coming,” he was saying. As if his stories destroying her people would win her endearment.

He fell silent, his gaze predatory. “How can I buy your allegiance?” he asked.

She scowled. “You attack my ship, kidnap me, and leave my friends for dead. Nothing?”

“Something must or we’re all dead.” He glanced at the windows. “Space isn’t empty. Treaties must be made to survive.”

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
